Caritas Bulgaria participates in a conference on the topic: Regional platform for exchange of experience in response to the Ukrainian refugee crisis in Romania

The Caritas Bulgaria team was part of a Conference within the framework of the initiative “Regional Platform for Exchange of Experience in Response to the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis”, which was held in the period 25-28 November 2024 in Romania. The presentation of the Bulgarians, related to the experience of our country in the field of employment, was held with increased interest and sparked a serious discussion on ways to help refugees from Ukraine.

The participants were part of five thematic working groups, dealing with topics such as psychosocial support, social work and case management, access to education, employment support and assistance for safe return to Ukraine. The groups from the nine Caritas organizations (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary, Catholic Relief Services) will continue their cooperation after the conference and will document successful models of Caritas programs for refugees, develop new programs for cross-border cooperation and participate in advocacy actions, primarily at the European level.

“The Ukrainian refugee crisis draws our attention to new problems, for which experts from the regional working groups formed within the project are seeking solutions these days in Satu Mare,” said Doina Crangasu, Executive Director of the Caritas Romania Confederation at the end of the conference. She added that it is important to have a dialogue with decision-makers at the European level in order to create mechanisms to ensure more stability and predictability after the expiry of the EC directive on temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees in March 2026.”
