BGN 37 187 have been raised in support of elderly people by “Because WE ARE HUMANS”

BGN 37 187 are the funds raised by the “Because WE ARE HUMANS” Campaign which was implemented by “Caritas Bulgaria” in the period from November 2^nd, 2017 to April 30^th, 2018.

The Campaign was in support of elderly people suffering from health issues and needing professional care and support. “Caritas” is implementing the service “Home Care” for them, thanks to which over 360 elderly people are receiving long-term professional (health and social) care, attention and understanding in their homes, and with that – also the confidence that they can live with dignity in their old age.

In 2017 the nurses and the social assistants, working in the Caritas Home Care Centres helped 367 elderly people in 14 towns and villages in Bulgaria, where they were visiting them in their homes several times per month, every week, and in some cases every day. The complex care services delivered by the assistants of “Caritas” help elderly people to live in their old age in their own homes, while being confident that they are not alone and that they have somebody to count on for their daily needs.

The funds raised by the “Because WE ARE HUMANS” Campaign will help the mobile teams of the Caritas Home Care Centres to continue visiting needy elderly people in their homes and helping them both with professional health care services and in their social needs as well as with care for their emotional well-being.

The expenses for providing long-term complex (health and social) home care amount to BGN 90 per elderly person per month. They include: transportation expenses that the teams of the Caritas Home Care Centres need in order to reach the homes of the elderly people (a total of 11 cars of 8 of the Centres), administrative expenses of 8 of the Caritas Home Care Centres; salaries for the nurses and the social assistants of 8 of the Centres – a total of 21 people, from which 12 are nurses and 9 are home assistants.

The care for the elderly has a great significance for “Caritas”. It’s because we believe that people should live with dignity at every stage of their lives. That is why our fundraising efforts continue – by using these donations we will be able to help elderly people to live with dignity in their old age in their own homes while receiving care and support from specialists.
