Caritas Day: Implemented Initiatives

Caritas Day was celebrated on November 18th, 2018. It was carried out under the slogan “This poor man called, and the Lord heard him”. On this day associates of Caritas, representatives of the Catholic communities and all those who share the mission of Caritas organized charitable initiatives in support of people in need and in support of activities of Caritas by which the organization helps people in vulnerable situations.

Among the events held were the following:

Caritas Vitania celebrated the Caritas Day with a charitable bazaar in Rakovski during which the amount of BGN 1043 was raised. With these resources and with the food products, collected by the “Generous Basket” Initiative, held by Caritas in Rakovski and Belozem, packages with essential foods were prepared. In Belozem volunteers of Caritas made happy 34 lonely people and families in need, and in Rakovski food packages were given out to 36 households.

Caritas Ruse celebrated the Caritas Day in all localities, where the organization has its structures and carries out its activities. In Belene, Bardarski Geran, Gostilya and Ruse posters and leaflets were given out to the recipients of the social services of Caritas, to their close ones, the communities, donors, and volunteers.

In Veliko Tarnovo and Gabrovo the parish priest Father Strahil, and in Malchika – Father Remo, gave special consideration to the activities of Caritas during the liturgies. In Ruse the parish priest Father Valter also talked about the need of the activities of Caritas. He read a part of the speech of mons. Petko, Bishop of Nikopol and President of Caritas Bulgaria, which was on the leaflets that had been received by the faithful. In the foyer of the cathedral an exhibition was made with works of homeless people, accommodated in “The Good Samaritan” Shelter in Ruse, organized by Darinka Kalapish, а social worker at the shelter.

Caritas Sofia celebrated the Caritas Day with various initiatives, among which were: the “Donate Food to Support a Person in Need” Initiative in Plovdiv, by which food packages were collected and given out to 10 families. Food products were also sent to the soup-kitchen of the Sisters of Mother Teresa, where nearly 50 homeless and poor people received hot food, a charitable bazaar in Sofia, during which souvenirs and greeting cards, manufactured in the two social enterprises of the organization: CaritART and Rozhdestvo Hristovo, were sold.
